Junior Volunteer Program

Thanks for your interest in participating in the Junior Volunteer Program at Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter (HOV). HOV believes that humane education yields lifelong benefits – we are excited that you and your child wouldMandAedited like to volunteer together.

Please take a minute to review the Junior Volunteer Handbook.

Jr.Volunteer Handbook

What will you be doing?

Junior Volunteers and their designated parent/guardian participate in the Cat Cuddler Program and Canine Story Time. Cat Cuddlers must be at least 6 years old to volunteer and Canine Story Time Volunteers must be at least 8 years old. For everyone’s safety, we request a 1 adult to 2 children ratio.

What is the time commitment?

We ask for 2 visits per month for 6 months time. Once trained as Cat Cuddlers, volunteers can volunteer any day of the week between 11:30AM-5:30PM. Canine Story Time Volunteers can volunteer daily between 11:30-3:30.

Do I need to volunteer with my child?

Yes. All youth, ages 6-15, must be accompanied by a designated parent or guardian during their entire volunteer experience. This includes the New Volunteer Orientation and Cat Cuddler Training. The adult:child ratio is 1:2.

When can we begin?

Apply today! Orientations are held twice per month so it’s a good idea to submit your application early. When submitting an application for a Junior Volunteer, you MUST also submit an additional application for the Designated Parent/Guardian with whom your Junior Volunteer will be volunteering with. Your child will not be able to register for a New Volunteer Orientation until we receive an application for the adult with whom they will volunteer with. After we receive your applications, you will receive an e-mail outlining dates for upcoming New Volunteer Orientations. Don’t forget to submit one application for each person who plans on volunteering.
